For small doll:
DMC Petra cotton size 8

For big doll:

2mm hook
Soft toy filling
Sewing needle
Soft pastel (for cheeks)

Wooden disc (for base) (approx. 9cm)
Size:
a doll is approx. 11cm (4.5 inches) tall (using DMC Petra size 8 and 0.75mm hook)
24cm (9.5inches) tall (using Sirdar Hayfield Bonus DK and 2mm hook)
Abbreviations:
ch/chs=chain/chains

2sc=inc=increase (2 single crochets in the same st)

dec=invisible decrease (insert hook in the front loop of the next 2sts, yarn over, pull through first 2

Notes:
Both dolls are made from the same pattern, but using different yarn/thread and hooks
Most of the sections are worked in rounds, each round is closed off with a slip stitch (ss) to first st of
the round and the next round is started with a chain (ch)
Stuff firmly as you go or as indicated (I use pipe cleaners in legs if working in thread, not DK yarn)
Change colour in the last loop of the st before the colour change

Horse;

Base: I use a wooden disc and crochet a cover for it
first, I crochet a flat circle (slightly bigger than my wooden disc),
second, I make a round (or more if needed) without increases,
then, I sew the doll onto the crocheted cover,
finally, I glue the wooden disc to finish off the base.

embroider nose between rounds 6 and 7 , counting from neck
embroider eyes (round 7, counting from neck and 7sts apart)
attach hair (cut yarn, attach in the middle
of the head)
attach hat (embroider straps, using end tail)
blush cheeks, using soft pastel
attach waistcoat and embroider ‘buttons’ with contrast wool
attach collar
sew the dolls onto crocheted base and glue
wooden disc under (I use all-purpose PVA glue)
